Hans Hateboer chooses SEG

Hans Hateboer’s professional journey is remarkable, marked by loyalty and growth, having only played for two clubs: FC Groningen and Atalanta Bergamo.

At FC Groningen, Hateboer was identified as a prodigious talent early on. He progressed through the youth ranks and made his senior team debut in 2014 at just 20 years old. That debut season was capped off by winning the KNVB Cup. 

Three years later, Hateboer made a notable move to Atalanta. This transfer was eye-catching, yet Atalanta had already established a reputation for their keen eye for young talent and their innovative scouting approach. Two years earlier, they had signed Marten de Roon from sc Heerenveen. 

Hateboer’s tenure at Atalanta has seen him flourish both as a right midfielder and wing-back, with significant credit going to coach Gian Piero Gasperini, who has been at the helm since 2016. Under Gasperini’s guidance, Hateboer helped Atalanta reach the Champions League quarter-finals in the 2019-20 season and secured the UEFA Europa League title this year.

Hateboer was also part of the Netherlands U-20 and U-21 national teams. He made his debut for the Netherlands national team in 2018 and has earned a total of 13 caps to date.
