Shaqueel van Persie extends Feyenoord journey

14 January 2025

Shaqueel van Persie has committed to Feyenoord until 2028. Last Thursday, the 18-year-old Feyenoord Academy player signed a new contract that will keep him at the Rotterdam club for three more years. Shaqueel put pen to paper at the club's press centre in De Kuip, flanked by his parents Bouchra and Robin, and SEG founder Kees Vos.

“I’m incredibly proud to continue wearing the Feyenoord shirt in the coming seasons," Van Persie said shortly after signing the new deal. "The club has shown a lot of faith in me and every day at Varkenoord I’m working as hard as I can to achieve my goals.”

Van Persie is currently in his eighth season with the Feyenoord Academy. The young forward previously spent time in the youth systems of Manchester City and Fenerbahçe before returning to Rotterdam.

SEG founder Kees Vos said: “The new contract with Feyenoord will enable Shaq to further focus on fulfilling his dream: making his debut in the first team of his favourite club. It has been a privilege for me personally to be part of his journey to becoming a professional player. Shaqueel has been connected to me and SEG since he was a young boy. When I helped his father Robin during his playing career, I spent a lot of time with the entire Van Persie family, including Shaqueel. Playing football together in the garden, bedroom or hallway, it was always clear to me that Shaqueel was a special talent. His fine technique and efficient finishing abilities were obvious from the start and make him a promising professional football player. Feyenoord has also recognised these talents, alongside his feel for positioning and space on the pitch.”

“Over the last few years, Shaq experienced growing pains which limited his playing and training time, but he worked hard behind the scenes to regain full fitness. On the occasions he was able to play, he immediately demonstrated his talent and the promise he holds for the football world. I’m sure all Feyenoord fans and followers of the Dutch league will enjoy watching Shaq play as much as I do. I’m looking forward to staying part of Shaq’s journey. Onwards and upwards we go!”
