Sergio Gómez is delighted about his decision to return to his home country and to LaLiga. With Real Sociedad, Sergio has found a club with a very promising future, where he will have plenty of playing time. “I'm very excited about this long-term stage and I think we can achieve important things. I hope this move also opens the door to the Spanish national team.”
Sergio Gómez returned to Spain after playing for Borussia Dortmund, Anderlecht and Manchester City, where he spent two seasons. He played in LaLiga before, when he was with SD Huesca on loan from 2019 to 2021. This summer, many international clubs were interested in the 24-year-old midfielder. Eventually, he chose Real Sociedad with all his heart.
Sergio Gómez said: “Real Sociedad is a team that I have always liked very much. Their style of play adapts very well to my conditions. I needed to take a step forward to play and get more minutes and I think I'm going to achieve that here. I'm very excited about this new phase and I think we can achieve important things. Coming back to LaLiga and to an important club like Real Sociedad can also open the door to the Spanish national team; that is one of my objectives in the short to medium term. We will work together to achieve it.”
“I have been very happy with the work done by my team at SEG from the very beginning. This is the third move we have made together. First Anderlecht, then Manchester City and now Real Sociedad. I think all three moves have been very favourable in my career and the work done as a team has been very good. For SEG, my development and growth as a footballer have always been top priority. I think we have a very good team and the results are there.”
SEG agent Rubén Gómez said: “Sergio and his team at SEG are very happy that his transfer to Real Sociedad has succeeded after several clubs knocked on the door for him. For us, Sociedad was always the first choice. During the process we kept Sergio and the family up to speed daily, explaining the situation and assessing the possible scenarios that arose. The negotiations were challenging, especially since Manchester City was reluctant to let Sergio go and wanted to ensure it was in the best interest of both parties. There was a moment in which it seemed that the deal would fail, but seeing the evolution of the market and the high valuation that the club had on the player, in the end Sociedad was eager to sign him. This is an important step in Sergio's career, and we believe it will be very positive for his future.”
