Rick Karsdorp is officially a PSV player. The 29-year-old right-back was available on a free transfer after spending the last seven years at AS Roma. Last week, the three-time Dutch international signed a one-year contract with an option for an additional year. SEG board member Kees Ploegsma jr. oversaw the deal.
The departure of Jordan Teze had left a vacancy at the right-back position with PSV. Karsdorp is known as a tenacious defender with a strong attacking drive. He brings European expertise as well as nearly 300 matches of top-level experience to PSV’s first team squad. He is familiar with the Eredivisie and fits well into Peter Bosz's style of play.
SEG board member Kees Ploegsma jr. said: “Rick had basically reached a dead end at AS Roma. He could no longer count on a starting spot. In August we had a lot of discussions and talked with numerous clubs. PSV were interested from the start, but like so many clubs in this window they spent a long time waiting, searching and considering their options. Fortunately, we could close the deal in the final days of the transfer window.”
“In the end, everybody is happy. Rick is happy that he has found a club, and not just any club but the champion of the Netherlands. Rick is just a fantastic guy, a bit outspoken but with a heart of gold and very disarming. He's exactly the type of player Peter Bosz can use—a bit of spice in the team. I'm happy because I think it's great that Rick is coming back to the Netherlands, and especially to PSV in Eindhoven, which is a bit of my region and my club. I'm really curious to see how this season will unfold.”
