René Hake is making a move to Manchester United to become an assistant to coach Erik ten Hag. Together with Ruud van Nistelrooy, he will work under Ten Hag until June 2026. “I am delighted that René and Ruud have agreed to join our project, adding a wealth of experience, knowledge and new energy to the staff”, said Ten Hag.
René Hake was an assistant coach and head coach at numerous mid-table clubs in the Netherlands. In the past two years, he was head coach at Go Ahead Eagles. The 2023/24 season was fantastic for René and the Eagles, finishing ninth in the Eredivisie and winning the playoffs for European football, thus securing participation in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag said: “René did a magnificent job at Go Ahead Eagles, leading the team into Europe and the Conference League. That was the biggest surprise from last year. With all their experience, Ruud and René can do a lot for Manchester United. They will help us, they will bring innovations, they will bring new energy and dynamic.”
René Hake said: “It is a dream to work in the Premier League, especially with such a great club. If you get the chance to work at one of the biggest clubs and in the biggest league in Europe, you can't say no. I didn't have to think twice about it. It is a wonderful challenge.”
