Mark Flekken has signed a contract with German giants Bayer 04 Leverkusen, tying him to the club until the summer of 2028. The 31-year-old goalkeeper from Limburg will join as the first choice under new head coach Erik ten Hag. Flekken arrives from Brentford, who finished tenth in the Premier League this season.
The transfer was finalised with support from SEG, with agent Maikel Stevens facilitating discussions between the player and both clubs, and SEG’s legal team handling the legal framework.
Mark Flekken is no stranger to German football, having previously played for SC Freiburg, MSV Duisburg, Greuther Fürth and Alemannia Aachen. He has earned ten caps for the Netherlands, keeping clean sheets against Finland and Malta just last week in World Cup qualifiers.
Bayer 04 sporting managing director Simon Rolfes said: “Mark has an impressive physical presence and was one of the best keepers in the Premier League over the past two years. He knows the Bundesliga from his successful time at Freiburg. We are very well placed in the goalkeeping position for the team in the coming years.”
SEG agent Maikel Stevens said: “It’s fantastic to see Mark join Bayer Leverkusen – a top club set to compete in the Champions League next season. Mark's home in Bocholtz, just an hour’s drive from his new club, made this move all the more logical. Credit to both Brentford and Leverkusen for making this transfer possible.”
