JON DAHL TOMASSON SWEDEN MANAGER

1 March 2024

Jon Dahl Tomasson appointed manager of the Swedish national football team

As of 1 March, Jon Dahl Tomasson is the new manager of the Swedish national football team. The Dane will be the first ever foreign-born coach of Sweden. Jon brings his longtime assistant Remy Reijnierse with him as his assistant manager.

The appointment was negotiated with the help of SEG. “The negotiations were intense and challenging, but with a perfect end result", says SEG board member Kees Ploegsma. “SEG collaborates with both Jon and Remy, which made things a little easier. We are proud to have helped the two of them take this big step in their career. We wish them the best of luck starting a new era for Sweden.”

Jon’s primary objective is to qualify the Swedish team for the 2026 World Cup. His first job, however, will be to guide Sweden through the 2024/2025 Nations League tournament.

“I'm very much looking forward to starting this great assignment and meeting supporters and players in Sweden”, the former striker comments. “I know the country and the culture well. I have great faith and trust in the current squad.”

Both Jon and Remy were employed by Championship team Blackburn Rovers until recently, also as manager and assistant manager respectively. The two left the club by mutual consent after one-and-a-half years. Before his spell in Blackburn, Jon coached Swedish club Malmö — winning two league titles and leading the team into the Champions League.
