3 September 2024

Frenchman Axel Laurance is leaving Alpecin-Deceuninck. The reigning U23 world champion has signed a two-year deal with INEOS Grenadiers. “I’m very happy with the plans INEOS Grenadiers have in place for me.”

This year Axel (23) has developed rapidly, securing numerous victories. He impressed with a stage win and overall victory in the Tour of Norway, a stage win in the Tour of Catalonia and a stage win in the Étoile de Bessèges. As a result, there was significant interest from various teams. In the end, INEOS emerged as his dream team.

Axel Laurance said: “I worked hard with the people from SEG to compare all the plans the teams had in store for me. We stayed calm and took our time to make the right decision. I’m very impressed with the plans INEOS Grenadiers have in place for me for the future. It’s the best fit for me and my ambitions. I hope I quickly find my place in the team and win a lot of races.”

SEG agent Bart van Haaren said: “Because so many teams were interested, my SEG colleagues and I devised a strategy to select the best team. We considered many options and had discussions with several teams. My colleagues Martijn and Eelco Berkhout and myself guided Axel through the entire process. For Axel this is a big step forward, adding real value to his career trajectory. He will be given a priority position at INEOS, where he will serve as a fast finisher in tough races and take on a significant role in the spring classics. This prospect is what convinced him to make this move.”
