YOUNG TALENTS VISIT SEG RACING ACADEMY

At SEG Racing Academy, sharing knowledge with young cycling talents is what it’s all about. That’s why SEG Cycling is inviting the three cycling clubs it collaborates with to its headquarters in Amsterdam. First up: the Goudenbod-Parkhotel Development Team, who kicked things off with an inspiring visit earlier this month.

The talented U19 riders (aged 16-18) got an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at SEG Racing Academy. They dove into different aspects of professional cycling, starting with a workshop from SEG CyclingLab, which focused on what it takes to improve as a rider. They discussed the various factors that influence performance, such as tracking data properly in TrainingPeaks, what to communicate with your coach, sleep routines and more. The riders also participated in a core stability training session. The importance of branding and communication wasn’t overlooked either—two media experts shared insights on using social media effectively. And of course, every rider had their official photos and mugshots taken to sharpen up their online presence.

A professional dietitian was also on hand to analyse the riders' eating habits. Each participant had logged their food intake for a day, which was then reviewed in detail. To wrap things up, the riders took a BrainsFirst test to map their cognitive skills. And as a final treat to round off an eventful day, every rider went home with some cool gear, including a flashy pair of cycling glasses.

With the Goudenbod-Parkhotel Development Team leading the way, SEG Racing Academy is set to welcome two more partner clubs soon: the Belgian Acrog-Tormans and German Junior Racing from Germany. They’ll also get their chance to explore, learn and connect with the pros.

Earlier this year, SEG Racing Academy—the development branch of SEG Cycling that celebrated great successes from 2015 to 2021—returned in a new format. The focus is now on supporting U17 and U19 top talent and sharing knowledge. SEG Racing Academy’s goal is to move the cycling sport forward by nurturing young riders and help them maximise their talent.
